Machine Type: Wire EDM 
 
Special Features: Wire EDM (electrical discharge machining) uses an  
electrically energized thin brass wire to slice through metal - including  
difficult to machine metals. Wire EDM creates intricate profiles. The Wire  
EDM machine uses rapid, controlled, repetitive spark discharges. 
 
Possible shapes: Any simple or complex 2D shape - allows cutouts  
and thin walls. 
 
Example parts: Punches, dies, stripper plates, gears made from Steel,  
super alloys, titanium, aluminum, brass, carbide and most metals. 
 
Advantages: Cutting intricate shapes and tight radius contours. Low cost  
when surface area of cut edge is small or quantity is low. Workpiece  
thickness ranges from a few thousandths of an inch to several inches 
 
Notes: Wire EDM edges are smooth but matte. Typical surface finish is  
between 16 and 64 micro inches. The edges of the finished work piece will  
have virtually no burrs 
 
Machine Type: 2-CNC Milling Machines 
 
Special Features: CNC milling is a cutting process in which  
material is removed from a block of material by a rotating tool. In 3-axis  
milling the work piece or cutting tool is moved in all three dimensions  
to achieve the desired cut shape. Material is usually removed by both  
the end and the side of the cutting tool. In CNC milling the cutting tool  
rotates about an axis that is perpendicular to the table that holds the  
material to be cut. Cutting tools of various profile shapes are available  
including square, rounded, and angled. A wide variety of part shapes  
and geometries are possible. 
 
CNC means "computer numeric control" and allows customers to  
specify close tolerances for their parts, much closer tolerances than  
could be regularly produced by humans.  This is possible because  
people have pioneered a systems of interfaces which go directly from  
computer-based drawings (and imported files such as DXF and DWG  
files from other programs) directly into CNC machine programs. 
 
Machine Type: CNC Lathe 
 
Special Features: This is a special CNC that has  
speeds and feeds beyond typical machines. It has "live  
tooling" that allows us to mill slots and flats on parts.  
We can make any round shape that can be drawn on a  
computer -- and we can draw  those shapes. 
 
Machine Type: Ram-type EDM 
 
Special Features: This machine works the same  
as the Wire EDM, but we can also burn cavities with it.  
Unlike the Wire EDM machine, we can use this  
machine to make partial penetrations such as pockets  
and holes to close tolerances. We burn carbides and   
hardened steels to make die parts and machine parts. 
 
 
      
Machine Type: Engine Lathe 
 
Special Features: X and Y Axis DRO (Digital Readout) lathe with length of  
travel 40" with a 2.5 " hole through the head stock. 
 
This machine tool makes round shaped parts by turning the material and  
applying a cutter to produce parts as long as 40" and 14" in diameter. 
 
Machine Type: Surface Grinders 
 
Special Features: These Surface Grinders allow us to produce close  
tolerance dimensions on dies and machine parts. 
 
Machine Type: Turret Milling Machine 
 
Special Features: This Turret Mill allows us to do  
precision hole location, boring and milling to close  
tolerances.
